Receipts are 80mm thermal. On a counter machine running the desktop app they print silently on the receipt printer; in a browser you get the ordinary print dialog.

What you’re looking at

Receipts have no screen of their own — they surface in two places. At the till, completing a sale opens the Sale Complete! dialog — “Transaction processed successfully” — showing the Sale Number, the Total and, on a cash sale, Change Due. Two buttons sit under it: Print Receipt and New Sale. A sale rung up during an outage opens the same dialog headed Sale Saved Offline instead. On Sales › Recent Sales, every row’s ⋯ menu lists Print Receipt and Download PDF under an Actions heading. Both open the same dialog, Receipt · {sale number} — “Reprint on an 80mm/thermal printer or download a PDF copy.” A brand-new pharmacy has nothing to reprint: Recent Sales shows No sales found, and there are no ⋯ menus. The first receipt you can reprint is the first sale you ring up. On the Sale Complete! dialog, select Print Receipt. In the desktop app the receipt goes straight to the counter printer with no dialog — that silence is the design, not a failure. If direct printing is not available, the app falls back and tells you so: Direct printing unavailable — using the print dialog. Nothing is lost; print from the dialog that appears.

Reprint or download a past receipt

1

Find the sale

Open Sales, go to Recent Sales, and find the transaction — widen the date range if the sale is older than the window on screen. You can also scan the barcode on the customer’s copy into “Search or scan receipt…”, or use the small barcode button in that box to scan with the camera. See Scan barcodes at the till.
2

Open the row menu

Select the row’s ⋯ menu. Under Actions you get Print Receipt and Download PDF.
3

Print or save

Both open Receipt · {sale number}. Select Print for paper, or Download PDF for a copy to email or file.On the desktop app a successful print confirms with Receipt sent to printer. In a browser there is no toast, because the print dialog is already in front of you.

What is on the receipt

A completed receipt is headed SALES RECEIPT, carries your pharmacy’s name, address and phone, then the date, the Receipt No:, the customer, the lines with quantity and amount, the totals, the payment method with cash tendered and change, Served By, and a footer of Thank you for your purchase! and Keep this receipt for your records. The receipt number looks like POS-20260816-59E46A and prints as a barcode at the bottom. That barcode is what lets a returning customer’s slip be scanned straight back into the sales list.

An offline receipt is deliberately different

A sale rung up during an outage prints PROVISIONAL — WILL CONFIRM ON SYNC across the top, a Provisional No: instead of a receipt number, and no barcode at all — the provisional number does not exist on the server yet, so a barcode would scan to nothing. Once the sale syncs it gets its real number, and a reprint from the Sales page carries the scannable barcode. Tell the customer their slip is their proof of purchase and that the confirmed number follows. See Selling when the internet is down.
Use each document’s own print button. The receipt path is for sales, and anything sent through it is stamped SALES RECEIPT. Payments, prescriptions and orders have their own printouts that say what they actually are.

Fix a blank or cut-short receipt

This is the most common printer complaint at a counter, and it is almost always the paper form the driver expects rather than the printer itself.
1

Open a receipt on the desktop app

On Recent Sales, open any sale’s ⋯ menu and select Print Receipt to reach the Receipt · {sale number} dialog.
2

Select the gear

The gear button in the dialog’s footer is Printer settings. It appears in the desktop app only — in a browser, the browser’s own print dialog handles the paper.
3

Choose a paper handling option

Under Receipt printer paper — “If receipts come out blank or cut short on this machine, pick the paper form its printer driver understands. Saved for this computer only.” — Paper handling offers:
4

Print a test receipt

Select Print again. The setting is saved for this computer only, so each counter machine is set up once, on its own.
See Thermal printers for the full hardware guide.

Who can do this

Printing is not a separate privilege. Anyone who can ring a sale up can print its receipt and reprint it later — a customer asking for their slip back is not a decision anybody needs to authorise. Role governs the sidebar: a Cashier reaches POS and Sales only, which is enough for everything on this page. Two behaviours surprise people:
  • Enforcement is opt-in, per person. Someone never saved in the permissions sheet is unrestricted, whatever their role bundle. The sheet warns “Saving starts enforcing”.
  • A denied action is recorded; an allowed one is not. A refused amendment leaves a line in the audit trail; a reprint you were entitled to make does not.
See Staff permissions.

Check it worked

  • Paper comes out of the receipt printer with the whole sale on it, cut cleanly.
  • A completed receipt carries a barcode; scanning it on the Sales page opens that sale.
  • Download PDF saves a copy of the same receipt.

Common issues

The app could not reach the counter printer directly, so it handed you the browser dialog instead. Nothing is lost — print from the dialog. Then check the printer is switched on, connected and selected in the operating system.
Change Paper handling as above. A thermal driver given a page size it does not enumerate will happily feed blank paper.
Printer settings exists in the desktop app only. In a browser, pick the paper in the browser’s own print dialog.
It is a provisional, offline slip, which carries no barcode. Find the sale by date and customer instead, and reprint the confirmed receipt.
Try again, then try Print instead. If both fail on one sale but work on others, note the sale number for support.
The receipt could not be fetched — usually a dropped connection. Reprints need a connection; the sale itself is safe either way.

FAQ

Yes. Widen the date range to cover the day of the sale, find it in Recent Sales, and use Print Receipt on its ⋯ menu. There is no cut-off — every completed sale keeps its receipt. You do need a connection, because the reprint is built from the stored sale rather than from anything held on the till.
It is the same document, rendered again from the stored sale — so it carries the same receipt number and the same barcode. If the sale has been amended since, the reprint shows the sale as it stands now, not as it was first printed.
Not from this dialog. Use Download PDF and attach the file yourself. The PDF is a narrow, receipt-shaped page rather than a full A4 sheet, so it reads correctly on a phone.
No — it is saved for that computer only, because which paper form works is a property of the driver installed on that machine. Set it once on each counter machine that misbehaves and leave the rest on Auto (recommended).
Because a dialog at a counter costs a queue. In the desktop app the receipt goes straight to the thermal printer and confirms with Receipt sent to printer. If you see a dialog there, direct printing was unavailable and the app fell back on purpose.
