When you sell a prescription at the till, the pharmacy records the handover: who collected it, whether counselling was accepted or declined, your own questions, the privacy-notice acknowledgment when one is due, and a signature. You can record it straight after the sale, or leave it as Collect later.

Mark prescription items

Items that are always sold on prescription can be marked once, so the till never forgets.
1

Open the item

Open the item in your inventory and edit it.
2

Turn on Prescription item

Turn on Prescription item and save. The till then ticks and locks This is a prescription on that item’s line, so selling it always leaves a pickup to record.
Nothing is marked to begin with. Until you mark an item, the till treats it as an over-the-counter sale unless the cashier ticks the line.

Sell a prescription

1

Add the customer

A pickup belongs to a customer, so choose them on the sale. A sale with no customer leaves no pickup to record.
2

Tick the prescription lines

Each line in the cart has This is a prescription. It is ticked, and locked, for a Prescription item. Tick it yourself for any other line sold on a prescription.
3

Complete the sale

Take payment as usual. Once the sale is saved, the Record pickup sheet opens for the prescription lines.
4

Record the pickup, or leave it for later

Fill in the sheet as described in Record a prescription pickup: who is collecting, the counselling answer, your questions, the privacy notice when it’s due, and the signature. Then select Record pickup. If the customer will collect later, select Collect later instead.
The sheet uses the clinical wording on its own labels, for example The patient and Someone else for the patient. It means the customer.

Find a pickup that’s waiting

A pickup left as Collect later stays listed until someone records it:
  • on the Sales screen, under Awaiting pickup, with its code, the number of items and the date;
  • on the customer’s record, on the Purchases tab.
Select Record beside it to open the sheet. You can also scan the pickup code.

Who can do this

A cashier without Dispense a prescription can still complete the sale. They see “Awaiting pickup — a pharmacist will record the handover.” and the pickup waits on the Sales screen.

Check it worked

After recording, the pickup no longer appears under Awaiting pickup on the Sales screen. After Collect later, it does.

Common issues

Either no line was ticked This is a prescription, the sale had no customer, the sale was taken while the till was offline, or you don’t have Dispense a prescription. An offline sale’s pickup appears under Awaiting pickup once the till is back online and the sale has synced.
The item is marked Prescription item, so the line is always a prescription. Change the item if that’s wrong.
A required answer is missing: who is collecting, the counselling answer, a required question, the privacy acknowledgment when it’s shown, or the signature.
