What you see
Each file shows its name, size, the folder your clinic filed it under, and when it was shared with you. Use the search box to find one by name or folder. If the list is empty, your clinic hasn’t shared any files with you yet — that doesn’t mean none exist, only that none have been shared. Ask your clinic if you’re expecting something.Opening a file
Select a file to open it in the portal’s own viewer — nothing downloads to your device just to look at it. A photo or scan opens inline; a PDF is shown page by page; a Word document (.docx) shows as formatted text, with a note that formatting may differ slightly from the original; a plain text or Markdown file shows as text. Some file types have no preview — you can still download them.
Downloading a file
Select Download at any time, for any file — it’s your own record, so there’s no confirmation to get past and no restriction on staff downloads applies to you. The file saves with its original name.Good to know
- Your clinic decides what’s shared, and when. A file can be shared and later un-shared — if something you were viewing disappears from the list, your clinic has stopped sharing it; the file itself hasn’t been deleted from their records.
- A file your clinic has marked sensitive is never shared here, even if a staff member tries — your clinic’s system refuses it.
- If your access to the portal is through a parent or guardian’s account and some categories of your record are restricted, a shared file in one of those categories won’t appear either — see Privacy & Security.
