# Send urgent alerts, set your status and pause notifications

> Send an urgent alert that stays on everyone's screen until they confirm, set a status, and use Do not disturb in Team chat.

An urgent alert is for the moments when something cannot wait. It reaches everyone on shift now with a banner and a sound, and stays on screen until each person confirms.

<Path steps={['Sidebar', 'Team chat', '+']} />

## Send an urgent alert

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the form">
    Select **+**, then **Send an urgent alert**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write the alert">
    Enter up to 500 characters under **Alert**. Leave patient details out.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send it">
    Select **Send alert**. Everyone who is on shift now is alerted. If your clinic does not use the rota, everyone on the team is.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If your clinic has more than one site, **Who should get it** lets you tick the sites that need the alert; leave them all unticked to alert the whole clinic. **Who has seen it** then also shows the count for each site.

Select **Who has seen it** to see who has confirmed and who has not. The list refreshes while it is open. Each person sees the banner on any page and selects **I've seen this**. It does not close by itself, and it breaks through Do not disturb. On a point-of-sale screen it appears as a small strip in the corner that never covers the sale.

An unread urgent message can also re-alert the person and pass to their cover, then to an owner. The sender sees each step in a timeline, and owners and managers set the timing in **Team chat settings**.

## Mark a message High or Urgent

Select **+** in the message box and choose an **Importance**. Everyone sees **Normal** and **High**; **Urgent** is for owners, managers and channel admins. A **High** message notifies people even in a channel they set to mentions only, unless it is muted or they use Do not disturb. An **Urgent** message breaks through Do not disturb.

## Set your status

Select the dot at the top of the list to open **Your status**. Choose **Available**, **Busy**, **In a procedure** or **Away**, add a note, and choose when it clears. Busy and In a procedure hold back sounds and pop-ups; urgent messages still get through. **Off shift** and **With a patient** show up by themselves from the rota and appointments. The dot beside a name is green for **Available**, red for **Busy** and **In a procedure**, amber for **Away**, blue for **With a patient** and grey for **Off shift**; the words are always there too, for anyone who can't tell the colours apart.

## Do not disturb

In **Team chat settings**, choose a time under **Do not disturb**: 1 hour, 4 hours or until tomorrow morning. It silences sounds, pop-ups and the email reminder. Urgent alerts and messages marked urgent still reach you.
